HOLINESS…Saved From Wrath?

God gives this command in 1 Peter 1:16: “Be holy, for I am holy.”

He is speaking to those who are His children, those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior and who have a personal relationship with Him. God has called His children to be His ambassadors on the earth and to bring Him glory.

The book of Ephesians contains important truths that should impact believers’ attitudes and actions, and motivate us to live a holy life.

In this letter, the apostle Paul describes the immeasurable blessings God has given us in Christ.

He teaches us that all believers are members of the Church, which is the Body of Christ.  Christ is the Head of the Church and all the members are empowered by the Holy Spirit to do Christ’s work on the earth.

Paul reminds us that someday soon, this Holy God will pour out His righteous wrath on sin.  As God’s holy people, we should live differently from the “sons of disobedience”.

In light of these truths, Paul exhorts us in Ephesians 5:1-7 to not only be thankful for God’s blessings through Christ, but to live in a manner worthy of them.

Ephesians 5:1-7

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints [God’s holy people]; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.   Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them;”

What Do You Think?

Do you think the wrath of God should come upon those who disobey His Word?
