HEAVEN…The Ultimate Healing

Healing.  Our world is broken by sin, and every one of us needs healing.  We need God’s healing touch in our bodies, minds, emotions, and relationships.  We need healing and forgiveness for our sins, and a restored relationship with our Creator.

Scripture states clearly that God’s Son, Jesus Christ, is the only door to the healing we need. Out of love for us, God sent His Son to redeem us from sin and its terrible effects. Christ paid the penalty for our sins with His own blood on the cross.  His sacrifice provides healing for us in this life.  It also promises a future, ultimate healing – one that will restore not just people, but God’s entire Creation.

How can we enter into God’s great plan of redemption?  There is only one way.  We must recognize that we need a Savior.  We must turn from sin and accept Christ’s sacrifice for us.  Then God will begin the process of healing in our lives.  He will forgive our sins and restore our relationship with Him.  He will give us His Holy Spirit to help us become more Christ- like.

Whatever struggles you face in this life, be encouraged.  If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you may approach God’s throne of grace with confidence to receive the help you need (Hebrews 4:16).  You have access to all God’s promises (2 Corinthians 1:20).  His promises include a wonderful inheritance reserved for you in heaven (1 Peter 1:4).

2 Corinthians 1:20
“For as many as are the promises of God, in [Christ] they are yes;”

Jesus’ mission statement in Isaiah 61 shows us God’s heart of compassion and His desire to heal us.  It helps us understand the ultimate healing that will soon be ours.

Isaiah 61:1-2
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord…”

God has promised to “make all things new” (Revelation 21:5).  When He does, it will be The Ultimate Healing.

A New Body

God has promised to give us new bodies that are untainted by sin.  As God raised Christ from the dead, so He will raise those who trust in Christ as Savior and Lord.  Someday soon, Christ will return to earth to take His people to Heaven.  As we rise to meet Him in the air, He will change our bodies to be like His glorious, resurrected body (Philippians 3:20-21; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; 1 Corinthians 15).

Unlike our earthly body, our new spiritual body will be immortal and imperishable, free from disease, aging, and death.  It will be free from sin and no longer subject to temptation (1 Corinthians 15).

Philippians 3:20-21
“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.”

A New Mind

God has promised to give you a new heart and mind.  At Christ’s return, He will supernaturally transform your heart, mind, will, and emotions to be perfectly conformed to your Savior’s (1 John 3:2).

1 John 3:2
“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”

God’s plan is to restore you to the original image in which He created the human race: His own image. That image has been marred through sin, which is why we now struggle with ungodly desires, thoughts, and motivations.  We experience forgetfulness, confusion, and a wide range of mental and emotional health issues.

In the beginning, however, Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, had pure, innocent minds.  They had a great capacity to understand, to create, and to remember.

If you have trusted in Christ as your Lord and Savior, God has already begun the process of restoring you to the original image.  By the power of His Spirit, He has made you a “new creation” in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).  He has given you His Spirit and His Word so that you may be “transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

Now you are waiting for your inheritance, the culmination of your salvation.  God will purify your heart, mind, will, and emotions so they will be free from ungodly thoughts and a tendency to sin. Your thoughts, words, and actions will always honor God.  You will enjoy sweet, unbroken, fellowship with Him (1 John 3:2-3).  Your fellowship with others will also be sweet and governed by love.

You will enjoy permanent joy and peace and will be free from the memory of “the former things” (Revelation 21,22; Isaiah 65:17).  You will experience a new fullness of knowledge and be able to focus, think clearly, and stay alert at all times.

A New Heavens and a New Earth

God has promised to create a “new heavens and a new earth” that are free from sin and its corruption (2 Peter 3:10-13). The new earth is our final destination where we will live with God forever (Revelation 21).

In this new heavens and new earth, “there will no longer be any curse” (Revelation 22:3).  “And nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into [the new Jerusalem in the new earth], but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 21:27).

There will be no one and no thing that are sinful, that would tempt us to sin, or that would harm us in any way (Revelation 21:27).  Satan and all who are ungodly will be judged and thrown into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10-15; 21:8).

The new earth will be beautiful and perfect.  Nothing will decay, become spoiled, or fade away (1 Peter 1:4).  There will be nothing that will cause distress. There will be nothing to cause sorrow, pain, danger, anxiety, fear, discouragement, or depression.  No more night.  No more death.  And NO MORE TEARS (Revelation 21:1-5).

Revelation 21:1-5
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.”

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.’”

“And He who sits on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’  And He said, ‘Write, for these words are faithful and true.’”

God with us

Most wonderful of all, God has promised to live together with us on the new earth (Revelation 21:1-4).

We will serve God and reign forever in meaningful and rewarding service, using the gifts and knowledge He has given us (Revelation 22:3-5).  We will enjoy unbroken face-to-face communion with our merciful and loving Father God and with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom we owe our lives.

God’s plan has always been to bring all things in heaven and earth together in Christ (Ephesians 1:10).  His plan has always been to restore what was lost when sin came into the world…to provide His people with Ultimate Healing.

As you go through life’s difficulties, remember to look up and thank God for the hope and the inheritance He has given you through Jesus Christ.  You have so much to look forward to!

1 Corinthians 2:9
“Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.”
