Say this aloud:

“God values me highly – in spite of all my weaknesses and failures.”

Do you believe it? Say it again.

All of us have struggled at one time or another with thoughts of inadequacy, failure, and discouragement. This has caused all of us to feel “unlikeable”. These are not messages sent by God. They are lies from Satan, aimed strategically at our minds. Satan’s goal is to destroy our peace. His ultimate mission is to keep us from having a close, personal relationship with God. He wants to keep us from focusing on God’s Word and being able to hear God’s voice.

You and I have a weapon that is far more powerful than the lies of the enemy. The truth of God’s Word, and especially the revelation of God’s love, can easily defeat any thoughts of inadequacy and failure.

The Apostle Paul recognized that having a revelation of God’s love is absolutely crucial to a Christian. He prayed for believers to “know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that [they might] be filled up to all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:19).

Jesus resisted the lies of the devil by quoting Scripture, and you can too. For the Word to work more powerfully in you, you must first take time to put it in your heart. The Bible describes a process called “meditating on the Word”. Let’s walk through the meditation process with two Scriptures that can give you a deeper revelation of God’s love.

Day 1 – Romans 5:8

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

• Quiet your mind by focusing on the Lord. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit who lives in you to help you understand, internalize, and apply this verse.
• Read the verse out loud. Speak it slowly, and think about it. Repeat.
• Read the context of the verse, Romans 5:6-10 here or in your own Bible. What words describe our condition before we accept Christ? What does “demonstrate” mean?
• Use the verse in prayer, praise, and thanksgiving. (Speak aloud).

“Lord, thank You for demonstrating Your great love for me. When I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me. In spite of all my weaknesses and failures, You valued me. You valued me so highly, You gave the life of Your precious Son for me. Even though I was Your enemy, You wanted to forgive me and bring me into Your family. You are so amazing! Thank You for encouraging me with Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

• Say the verse aloud as a positive confession: “God demonstrated His love toward me, in that while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me.”
• Remind yourself of this truth throughout the day. Write Romans 5:8 on a 3×5 card so you can keep it with you, and then memorize it.

The next time Satan attacks you with thoughts of inadequacy, failure, discouragement, and being “unlikeable”, you’ll have a powerful weapon to resist Him. Quote Romans 5:8 aloud. It should immediately calm your heart and mind.

Let’s take a closer look at the lies Satan throws at you.

Lie: You are inadequate (lacking what is required, insufficient for a purpose, incapable of accomplishing anything).
Truth: You are learning Scripture, which trains you to be “adequate” and “equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17).

Lie: You are a failure (inadequate, unsuccessful, loser, disappointment, negligent).
Truth: If you learn and obey Scripture, it will train you to be “adequate” and “equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). If you have responded to God’s love by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are not a loser, you are a child of the King!

Lie: Discouragement (having lost confidence or enthusiasm; disheartened).
Truth: God’s Word will encourage you. As you persevere to follow it, you will have hope (Romans 15:4). God has good plans for you, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).

Lie: You are “unlikeable”.
Truth: God created you. As your heavenly Father, He may not like what you do, but He loves you. His plan is for you to be transformed by His Spirit and His Word to become more Christ-like (Romans 8:29).

Day 2 – Psalm 103:11

“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.”

• Quiet your mind by focusing on the Lord. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit who lives in you to help you understand, internalize, and apply this verse.
• Read the verse out loud. Speak it slowly, and think about it. Repeat.
• Think about how great God’s love is throughout the day. Look up at the sky.
• Study. Think about what fearing the Lord means. Do you fear God? How can you develop the fear of the Lord? Read the context of the verse, Psalm 103:1-22 here or in your own Bible. Write down words that describe God’s love.
• Use the verse in prayer, praise, and thanksgiving (Speak aloud).

“Lord, thank You for showing me how great Your love is: it’s a high as the heavens are above the earth. You are compassionate and gracious. Please teach me the fear of the Lord. Teach me to hate evil. Give me a desire to please You. Thank You for Your Word. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

• Say the verse aloud as a positive confession: “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is God’s lovingkindness toward me who fears Him.”
• Remind yourself of this truth throughout the day. Write Psalm 103:11 on a 3×5 card so you can keep it with you, and then memorize it.

If God’s love seems small and inadequate, look up to the heavens and quote Psalm 103:11.

Jesus said, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free” (John 8:31,32). Remind yourself often of the powerful weapon you have against the lies of the enemy. Then use it!
