Do you desire more of God’s grace and peace in your life? What would that look like? Would it be a renewed strength to face each day? A deeper trust in God’s love and provision? Would it be tranquility of mind in every situation, no matter how stressful?
Grace and peace are rewards that God desires to give His children in abundance, but there is one condition. The apostle Peter wrote, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence” (2 Peter 1:2-3).
The one condition for receiving multiplied grace and peace is to grow in the “true knowledge” of God and of Jesus.
Where can we find true knowledge of God? God’s Creation will give us a general revelation of His existence and attributes such as His power and wisdom. For more specific revelation, however, we must look into God’s inspired written Word, the Bible. This is where we find the Truth.
The key to receiving true knowledge of God from Scripture is to study it and prayerfully meditate on it. We must ask God to help us understand it, remember it, and apply it. Then we must obey.
A word of caution: We must also be diligent to compare any “God” experiences we have and any “word from the Lord” we hear, with Scripture. If it doesn’t agree with Scripture, we should not accept it as from the Lord.
Look again at 2 Peter 1:2-3 above. This Scripture reflects God’s love for us and His desire for relationship. We deepen our relationship with God by growing “in the knowledge of [Him]”.
As we set our hearts to “know” God in this way, God rewards us by multiplying – not just adding – His grace and peace in our life. He grants us “everything pertaining to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3).
Take time today to grow in the true knowledge of God. Expect more of God’s grace and peace in your life. The short study below can help you get started.
BONUS STUDY GUIDE to Help You Grow in the Knowledge of God:
God Will Never Leave You Or Forsake You
1. Read the two Scriptures below aloud. Repeat.
Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you.”
Hebrews 13:5-6
“Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,” so that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”
Have you put your faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord? If so, these promises are for you. No matter what you are going through, you can be encouraged that God will never leave you or forsake you.
2. Take time to quietly reflect on the two Scriptures. Think about times in your life when you needed these verses. Think how they could have changed you in the situation. Think about how you can apply them to your life now.
3. God wants you to remember His Word and to use it in praise and prayer. The samples below will give you an idea how to do this. Say the praise and prayer to God aloud. As you learn the two Scripture verses better, make your own praise and prayers.
Praise and Thanksgiving
“Father, thank You so much for Your Word. Your Word is true. You say I should be strong and courageous because You are always with me. You will never leave me or forsake me. Thank You, Lord!”
Pray and Ask
“Father, by Your Spirit, please help me remember Your Word. Show me how to apply it. I believe that what You have said is true. You will not fail me or forsake me. You will never desert me. You are my helper and I will not be afraid. Help me focus on You and declare Your Word in every situation. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
4. Practice God’s presence. Use the Scriptures above to remind yourself often that God is with you, even though you can’t see Him. Talk with Him as you go about your day. Listen to Him.
5. What if you could see God? How would that change the way you think, talk, and act? Practice His presence.
