You probably have seen a headline like this:

“Expert Says Secret of Life Found in Miracle Food.”

The story tells of an expert, a doctor known for his constant efforts to help struggling humanity.  He travels all over the world to find “miracle” foods to cure every ailment.  In the course of his travels, he discovers an amazing little-known plant that is vastly superior to every other food source.

“This new miracle food has extraordinary restorative properties,” declares the doctor.  He makes a strong case for his claim, citing extensive research and impressive  testimonials from everyday people who have already experienced the food’s benefits first-hand.

“Just follow my guidelines for getting the best results with this miracle food and you, too, can experience its incredible benefits,” the doctor promises.

How would you respond?

“This is too good to be true.  It must be a scam.”

But what God offers us is truly amazing.  Perhaps you’ve already recognized God as the Expert Doctor with a heart for struggling humanity.  He pleads with us to “eat” his Word, which is the miracle food containing the secret of life.  To support His claims, God offers many strong proofs and countless changed lives. He also gives specific instructions how to benefit most from His powerful Word.

Will you and I believe Him?  Will we act on the information He gives us?

Are You Missing Out On The Power?

Although there are a number of factors that will determine how much of the Bible’s power you experience in your life, one in particular is a necessary starting point: How do you view the Bible?   Do you see it as a book written by men?  Do you read it academically?  Just for pleasure?  Because someone said you should?  If so, you may not get past what you can see and understand on the surface.

The Bible is full of fascinating history and intriguing stories, and it has rules for right living. Within its pages you can meet the great miracle-worker Jesus and read startling passages about how the world will end.  But will you come to know the Living God personally through what you read?  Will you receive forgiveness of your sins, a new life empowered by the Holy Spirit, and the hope of heaven?  This is what God freely offers to those who accept the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ.  All you need to do is accept it.

There’s so much more to the Bible than what appears on the surface.  Paul makes this clear in his letter to the believers in Thessalonica.

For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

How can the Bible “perform a work” in us who believe?  It is the divinely-inspired Word of God, literally, God-breathed.  Its power and authority are from God Himself.  There is a Person behind the words.

One Simple Step Toward A Supercharged Life

Let’s take a look at how God Himself describes His Word.  If you can align your thinking with what He says, you will approach the Bible very differently and experience more of its power in your life.

• You will see it as God speaking to you, so you’ll pay more attention to it.
• You will have a greater respect for its authority, so you will apply it to every area of your life.
• Your expectation will be higher, which will allow you to tap into its power.

The verses below will give you a strong foundation.  If you have a tendency to be lukewarm toward God and the Bible, or find yourself taking the Bible “for granted” and forgetting its power, regular review of these verses will help you maintain an attitude that is both alert and expectant.

Here are some ideas for using these verses to best advantage:

1. Print them out. Take time to read them slowly and think about them.  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand them more fully, and to remind you of them when you need them.
2. Memorize them.
3. Read the verses just before you read your Bible. Saying verses aloud often works better than silently.  We seem to internalize it better when we hear ourselves say it.
4. To energize your times of praise, worship or prayer, speak the verses aloud to God.
5. Do a study on the verses so you understand them better.

Declare War On The Lies

Declare war on the falsehoods the world speaks about the Bible.  Meditate on these Scripture truths. Experience more of the Bible’s power in your life by changing how you view it.

The Bible is…

Inspired and Profitable

“For no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God” (2 Peter 1:21).

“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16,17).

Truth

“The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting” (Psalm 119:160).

Living and Powerful

“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host” (Psalm 33:6).

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

Eternal

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

Unfailing

“Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am watching over My word to perform it.”” (Jeremiah 1:12).

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it” (Isaiah 55:10,11).

Reliable

“God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; has He said, and will He not do it?  Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19).

What’s Next?

If you want to know God and receive all that He has for you, you must first correct your view of the Bible by aligning it with the truths in Scripture.  This will change how you approach the Bible, and ultimately, how you approach God.
