God With Us: Proof That We Are Loved

In just a few days, Christians all over the world will celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. He is the promised Savior of the world. He is Immanuel, meaning, “God with us” (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23).

God with us.

Think about that for a moment. Have you considered how the birth of Christ proves God’s love for you? You are greatly loved.

Jesus, the Creator of the universe, willingly humbled Himself to come to earth to become one of us. His mission was to rescue us from the just wrath of a holy God against sin – and to restore our relationship with God.

God’s wrath.

No one likes to hear about the wrath of God. But if we don’t accept this aspect of God from Scripture, we can’t truly appreciate God’s love, mercy, and grace in sending Jesus. We can’t fully understand what “being saved” means. “Saved” from what???

God is supremely holy, good and pure. He sees sin as self-will and rebellion. He cannot ignore or simply dismiss sin. His perfect justice demands that sin be punished. The price is high: it is death! That includes eternal separation from God forever in a place of torment called hell.

His words.

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16).

In John 3:16 above, “only begotten” can also be translated “unique, only one of His kind”. Jesus truly was only one of His kind.  He was the God-Man, fully God and fully man. He was tempted as we are, but lived a perfect, sinless life. Only Jesus could be the perfect sacrifice for our sins.

The mission.

Jesus fulfilled His mission to earth by taking the punishment for sin that should have been ours. With His own blood, he willingly paid for our sins on the cross. He laid down His life so that we might live.

There is no greater example of love than the cross. You are greatly loved.

There is more good news. This same Jesus who died for you, was raised from the dead three days later. He gave proof of His resurrection by showing Himself to His disciples, and to over 500 people at one time. Jesus, our risen Savior and Lord, is alive in heaven today, interceding for us.

The hope.

Scripture is clear. Jesus is our only hope. If we turn from sin and trust in Jesus as our Savior and Lord, God will forgive our sins. We are no longer judged guilty. Our relationship with God is restored. We receive a new life in Christ, for today, for tomorrow, and for eternity.

Whatever you are struggling with today, Jesus knows it. He knows your sorrows, your loneliness, your pain, every challenge you face. He promises to be God With Us – forever.

“I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

Do you know Jesus? Do you have assurance your sins are forgiven and you are destined for heaven? If not, read “How Can I Know God?”.

The truth.

You are greatly loved. May this Christmas be your best ever as you fix your eyes on Jesus Christ and His great love for you.
