Yes. Absolutely.
Surprised at my answer? Well, it’s true. There’s no doubt that good people would go to Heaven – IF there were any.
God’s View on Good People
The Bible is clear that only God is truly good. He alone is completely holy, pure, and just. When He judges how good we are, He compares us against only one standard: His perfect standard of righteousness.
Scripture confronts us with a hard truth: In God’s eyes,
- “There is no one who does good, not even one” (Psalm 14:3).
- “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
- “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment” (Isaiah 64:6).
Only God is truly good. He alone is completely holy, pure, and just. He is totally separated from evil and cannot compromise with sin.
The Measuring Stick
When God judges how good we are, He compares us against only one standard: His perfect standard of righteousness. To reach God’s standard, we would have to be perfectly good, as God is.
Have you ever lied? Have you ever wanted or taken something that wasn’t yours? Have you ever hated someone? These are sins, and they separate us from God.
We may act good on the outside, but God sees what’s on the inside. He knows our secret thoughts, attitudes, and motivations. Nothing is hidden from His eyes.
We are separated from God – and from His heaven – by a barrier called sin. Nothing we do can erase that barrier. Nothing.
Yet there is a way that you can go to heaven.
The Hard Truth
The Bible confronts us with another hard truth. This hard truth is what makes the Good News of Jesus Christ Really Good News. It makes the Gospel story The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.
What is this hard truth?
In God’s eyes, sin in any form is a serious offense against His holiness and must be punished. God’s perfect justice requires the most severe penalty for sin: death! Death is more than physically dying. It is eternal torment in a real hell, separated from God and His goodness forever.
None of us can save ourselves. Therefore, the sinner’s only hope is God’s forgiveness and pardon…
Are you ready for the Really Good News and The Greatest Love Story Ever Told?
Scripture teaches that even though we sin, God loves us deeply and is ready to forgive. He created us in His image, to have a personal relationship with Him. He is a loving Father, and His heart is set on restoring the relationship that was lost. Therefore, He offers us a remedy for our sin problem.
The Remedy for Good People
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
God proved His love for us by sending His own sinless Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for our sins with His own shed blood. Jesus voluntarily took the punishment for our sins by bearing them on the cross. He willingly laid down His life for us. Three days later, He resurrected from the dead, proving that He is God. Soon after, He appeared to more than 500 believers at one time.
Jesus’ atoning sacrifice for our sins is real. By accepting His sacrifice, we can receive salvation. Salvation is forgiveness of sins, a restored relationship with our Creator, and the gift of eternal life.
Salvation is a gift of God’s grace. It cannot be earned by being religious or by doing good works. It is granted only to those who see their need for a Savior and put their faith in the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
God invites you to come as you are and receive His gift of salvation. This is the most important decision you will ever make. Are you ready? Don’t put it off. Tomorrow may be too late.
Get Right, Not Good
Come as you are and receive. Pray a simple prayer like this from your heart:
Dear God, I know I am a sinner, and I need a Savior. I believe You sent Your Son Jesus Christ to pay for my sins on the cross, and that You raised Him from the dead. Jesus, I now turn from my sin and invite you to be my Savior and Lord. I choose to follow You. Come into my heart, forgive my sins, and save me, Lord Jesus. Thank You! In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
If you prayed in sincerity, God has just done a miracle of transformation in your life. You have been “born again”. Your sins have been forgiven and you now have eternal life. You have become a child of God and a member of His family. God’s Holy Spirit now lives in you to teach you and help you live for God.
What about heaven? You will go to heaven not because of what you have done, but because of what Christ has done for you. God has now identified you with His own Son and credited you, in a legal sense, with His Son’s perfect righteousness.
God’s plan is for the process of transformation to continue. His plan is for you to become like Christ in your character and behavior. Then you will be a witness to others that Christ is real. You will be able to face Christ without fear or shame when He returns. You will be prepared to live with Him in heaven forever.
